Volleyball Splits with Coast Guard and Wentworth

NEW LONDON, CT-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team split their non-conference matches against host Coast Guard and Wentworth at Roland Hall Saturday. The Corsairs fell to Coat Guard, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-15, then defeated the Leopards, 23-25, 23-25, 25-13, 25-16 and 18-16.

Sophomore setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 34 assists against Wentworth while senior outside hitter Eleni Tsaparakis (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk HS) had 11 kills against the Bears and 10 against Wentworth. Junior outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) had six kills against Coast Guard, while junior libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) had nine digs. Junior middle hitter Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) had 10 kills against Wentworth.

"We had to fight off two set points in the final game against Wentworth," said UMass Dartmouth Steve DeRossi. "We got to use our bench, and everyone got some good experience."

The Corsairs are now 17-4, Coast Guard is now 19-4, and Wentworth is now 5-14. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host UMass Boston Tuesday evening.
