NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team has been picked to finish seventh in the annual Little East Conference pre-season poll.
The Corsairs received 20 points in the poll, 11 points ahead of eighth-place Rhode Island College.
UMass Boston was picked first in the poll with seven first place votes and 62 points. Western Connecticut State was second with 53 points, while Keene State, which was third with 46 points, received the other first place vote. Plymouth State, Eastern Connecticut State and Rhode Island College were next.
"Until we see the chemistry and skill level of teams this year, most coaches have to rely on what they saw last year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve DeRossi. "Given the fact that we finished seventh last year, it's realistic that they picked us there this year. We don't intend to be a seventh-place team, and this could be a good motivational tool for all of us."
The Corsairs finished 18-10 overall last year. UMass Dartmouth will begin their 2010 schedule at home against Eastern Nazarene next Thursday, September 2nd.
