Corsairs Demonstrate Their Academic Prowess
(Dartmouth, MA) – UMass Dartmouth student-athletes continued to demonstrate their academic success this past semester when 39 students received Chancellor's List honors and 126 earned Dean's List honors following the fall 2012 academic semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale to qualify for the Chancellor's List, and a 3.2 or higher to make the Dean's List.
The compilation of student-athlete academic accomplishments is part of a review conducted each semester by the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Department. In total, 165 student-athletes received academic honors with all 26 of the Corsair varsity sports teams represented on the list.
"With our continued progress in academics, we are proud of the commitment made by our student-athletes to their school work as well as the work necessary to be successful in their sports as well," said UMass Dartmouth Athletic Director Ian Day.
The UMass Dartmouth women's cross country team had seven of its nine student-athletes earn academic honors to post a team GPA of 3.34 last fall. Ten UMass Dartmouth teams finished with a combined GPA of 3.0 or better, including women's indoor and outdoor track, ice hockey, men's tennis, sailing, women's soccer, women's tennis, equestrian and field hockey. Ice hockey and women's soccer each had six student-athletes reach the Chancellor's List. Ten student athletes earned perfect 4.00 scores during the Fall 2012 semester.
"As a department we take the accomplishments of our student-athletes very seriously and hold them up as great representatives of what the Division III model of student-athlete best represents," said Day.
