Corsairs Compete At UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth cross country teams hosted its annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational this afternoon. The men's team produced a seventh place finish, while the women's squad was ranked 21st among 29 participating teams.

On the women's side, freshman Reme Digiovanni (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) completed the 5-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 44.15 seconds to place 74th overall.  Sophomore Katisha Bellegarde (Methuen, Mass.) was the second UMass Dartmouth runner to finish the race, recording a time of 21 minutes, 12.53 seconds.  Junior Brittani Atkinson (Peabody, Mass.) turned in a time of 22 minutes, one second, while freshman Rachel Frazier (Mansfield, Mass.) and classmate Mary Leach (Peabody, Mass.) placed 134th and 136th, respectively.

Unattached runner Molly Roulillard earned the top step on the awards podium by completing the race in 18 minutes, nine seconds.  Brandeis' Amelia Lundkvist was the first Division III runner to cross the finish, posting a time of 18 minutes, 14 seconds.  The Rowan tandem of Christin Bettis and Megan Borz  produced a third and fourth place finish, respectively.

Senior Chris Jordan (Taunton, Mass.) was the first UMass Dartmouth runner to cross the finish line this afternoon.  Jordan covered the 8-kilometer course in a time of 27 minutes, one second to place 34th in the 210-person varsity race. The remaining four Corsair runners finished in a pack, separating the No. 2 and No. 5 harriers by a total of six seconds.  Freshman Sean Herlihy (Walpole, Mass.) edged senior Zach Switaj (Tamworth, N.H./Kennet Regional) by just a second to place 50th.  Sophomore Andrew Goncalves (New Bedford, Mass.) completed the course in 27 minutes, 40 seconds to finish three seconds ahead of classmate Michael Vaz (Dartmouth, Mass./Greater New Bedford Regional).

Franklin Pierce's Antoine Gisore captured the men's varsity race in a time of 24 minutes, 47 seconds.  Assumption's Anthony Fiermonte place second, while Rober Rawls (Rowan), Jonathan Sewnig (Rowan), and Ryan Widzgowski (Keene State) finished in respective order to round out the top five.

UMass Dartmouth will be back in action on Sept. 28, when the Corsairs travel to the Bowdoin Invitational.
