WATERFORD, Conn. – Senior Katie Sheehan (Scituate, Mass.) led the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to a 17th place result in the 19-team field at the Connecticut College Invitational this afternoon at Harkness Memorial State Park.
Tufts University tallied a meet-low 55 points to hoist the team championship trophy. Little East Conference rival Keene State College was second with 97 points, 12 markers ahead of Stevens. Ducks' Amy Regan captured the individual title, covering the 6-kilometer course in a time of 20 minutes, 57 seconds.
Sheehan led the Corsairs across the line and placed 43rd overall, notching a time of 23 minutes, 54 seconds. Senior Jessica Connor (Worcester, Mass.) was the No. 2 UMass Dartmouth runner and 142nd overall as she crossed broke the tap at 25 minutes, 34.40 seconds. Sophomore Reme DiGiovanni (Southborough, Mass.) was eight runners behind Connors as she tripped the timer at 25 minutes, 44.55 seconds.
Sophomore Sophie Morawski (Whately, Mass.) edged teammate senior Brittani Atkinson (Peabody, Mass.) for 179th place. Morawski turned in a time of 26 minutes, 34.55 seconds, while Atkinson completed the race in 26 minutes, 35.17 seconds.
UMass Dartmouth will not compete next weekend to prepare for the 2014 New England Alliance/Little East Conference Championship. MCLA will host the championships at 11 a.m. on Nov. 1 at Mount Greylock High School in Williamstown, Mass.
