BRISTOL, R.I. – Junior Reme DiGiovanni (Southborough, Mass) led the way for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's cross country team, placing 21st overall this afternoon at the Roger Williams Invitational.
The Corsairs opened the 2015 campaign with an 11th place performance among the 15 competing squads. Wellesley College won the meet with a total of 29 points, followed by Brandeis (40), and Salve Regina (138).
DiGiovanni was the first UMass Dartmouth runner to cover the Colt State Park course this afternoon, posting a time of 20 minutes, 47 seconds. Junior Nicole Nadeau (Wakefield, R.I.) was the No. 2 runner and 34th overall with a time of 21 minutes, 16 seconds. Freshman Kirstie Harnden (Fitchburg, Mass.) completed the course 23 seconds behind Nadeau, good enough for 50th overall.
Junior Sophie Morawski (Whately, Mass), freshman Christina Ruiz (Taunten, Mass), and junior Jennifer Miranda (New Bedford, Mass) completed the Corsair contingent.
Priyanka Fouda of Wellesley College won the individual race, finishing with a time of 19 minutes, 11 seconds.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Corsairs host the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
