NEW LONDON, CT-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's cross country team finished 13th out of 19 teams and the women were 13th of 18 teams at the Connecticut College Invitational at Harkness Memorial State Park Saturday.
For the women, junior Meaghan Bohigian (Barre, MA/Quabbin Regional HS) was 60th in 24:35, junior Megan Oliveira (Somerset, MA/Somerset HS) finished 85th in 25:06, junior Courtney Testa (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) finished 105th in 25:38, freshmen Kelci Sullivan (Hanson, MA/Whitman-Hanson HS) finished 111th in 25:45, junior Caitlin McGarigal (Shutesbury, MA/Amherst Regional HS) was 114th in 25:49, junior Stacey Dybel (Littleton, MA/Notre Dame Academy) was 133rd in 29:19, freshman Brittany Lyons (South Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth HS) finished 159th in 27:30, and senior Katie Galindo (Melrose, MA/Stoneham HS) finished 172nd in 28:23.
For the men, senior Nick Santoro (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John's HS) of the Corsairs finished 12th in 26:02, senior Eric Nygaard (Medway, MA/Medway HS) was 55th in 27:04, junior Steve Burke (Norwell, MA/Norwell HS) was 72nd in 27:17, junior Kevin Gilmore (Hanson, MA/Whitman-Hanson HS) was 95th in 27:40, freshmen Cody Gibney (New Bedford, MA/Greater New Bedford Vo Tech HS) was 136th in 28:22, senior Wes Meserve (Merrimack, MA/Merrimack HS) finished 163rd in 29:09, junior Steve Dowsett (Pittsfield, MA/Pittsfield HS) finished 171st in 29:26, junior Kevin Cordaro (Whitman, MA/Whitman-Hanson HS) finished 191st in 30:43, and freshman Chris Jordan (Taunton, MA/Taunton HS) finished 195th in 31:01.
"Today, senior Derek Stevens (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott HS) and freshmen Dekontee Chea (Chelmsford, MA/Chelsford HS) were out, so without those two, it's a lot more difficult to do as well as we wanted," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jon Hird. "I thought we got good races from Nick [Santoro] finishing in the top 12, but also Steve Burke, who is really starting to come on, and we got a great race from Cody Gibney, who improved a minute from his score last week. The women looked a little tired plus it was a 6k instead of a 5k, so they didn't run the way they are capable of running. Megan Oliveira ran well, Kelci Sullivan ran well, and our captain Stacy Dybel ran as well as she has run all season. We have two weeks until championship so we are going to use this time to rest up."
The Corsairs will return to action when they travel to the Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships in two weeks.
