CUMBERLAND, ME-Both of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's cross country teams improved over their performances a year ago at the NCAA Division III Regionals at the Twin Brooks Recreational Center Saturday. The Corsair men finished 14th in a field of 48 teams while the women were 26th of 47, with each finish two places better than the teams did a year ago.
The women had 808 points. MIT was first with 63 points. The men scored 428 points, Williams was first with 53 points.
Junior Nick Santoro (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John's HS) was the top finisher for the men, finishing 69th in the 8000 meter race in 26:55.9. Sophomore Steve Burke (Norwell, MA/Norwell HS) was 72nd in 26:58.6, sophomore Kevin Gilmore (Hanson, MA/Whitman-Hanson HS) was 81st in 27:05.5, freshman Jeremy Francisco (Dartmouth, MA/Darmouth HS) was 90th in 27:14.4, senior Tim Whelan (Abington, MA/Abington HS) was 116th in 27:33.5, junior Eric Nygaard (Medway, MA/Medway HS) was 175th in 28:37.7, and senior David Buschini (Newburyport, MA/Newburyport HS) was 224th in 29:49.7 . For the women, sophomore Caitlin McGarrigal (Shutesbury, MA/Amherst Regional HS) led the way, finishing the six kilometer race in 59th place with a time of 23:25.4. Sophomore Megan Oliveira (Somerset, MA/ Somerset HS) was 150th in 25:22.4, sophomore Stacey Dybel (Littleton, MA/Notre Dame Academy) was 184th in 26:04.5, sophomore Tessa McGrail (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury HS) was 191st in 26:07.5, freshman Rachel Leblanc (Somerset, MA/Somerset HS) was 224th in 26:56.0, sophomore Meghan Bohigian (Barre, MA/Quabbin Regional HS) was 228th in 27:01.9, and senior Jess Carpenter (Rutland, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) was 231st in 27:05.9.
The meet marked the final action of the season for the Corsairs.
