NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA--Head Coach Jon Hird of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's cross country team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Hird has been named Little East Conference Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
The Corsairs finished 16th at the New England Division III Regional Championships last fall with a team score of 446 points, nearly 300 points better than their showing a year ago. UMass Dartmouth finished third at both the Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships, which was three places better than they finished in the Alliance championships a year ago. In addition, four members of the team earned All-Academic honors.
"I really appreciate the support of my Little East colleagues, but any award like this is usually the result of a team effort, and that was the case this fall," said Hird. "We had a great team that came together really well, and the assistance of a great assistant coach in Deon Barrett."
"Jon's recognition is well deserved," said UMass Dartmouth Director of Athletics Ian Day. It is an indication that the program is heading in the right direction"
The Corsair track team will return to action when they compete in the MIT Pentathlon on Saturday, January 10th.
