REHOBOTH, Mass. -- The UMass Dartmouth equestrian team began its 2018-19 season by earning reserve champion honors at the Johnson & Wales Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Show Saturday afternoon at the JWU Equine Center.
Freshmen Devon Frasca (Millis, Mass.) and Casey Bigelow (Princeton, Mass.) recorded a pair of first place performances in their respective collegiate debuts for the Corsairs, as Frasca took top honors in the novice fences while Bigelow was first in the intermediate flat and fifth in intermediate fences.
Senior Oliva Van der Meer (Medway, Mass.) was second in both the open fences and open flat for UMass Dartmouth, while sophomore Elizabeth Sousa (Fall River, Mass.) finished third in the advanced walk trot canter. Sophomore Kamori Porter-Jacques (Bellingham, Mass.) added a fourth place performance in the large walk trot for the Corsairs, who received a fifth place showing from sophomore Kayleigh Sauyet (Andover, Conn.) in the novice flat.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action in two weeks when the Corsairs compete at the Becker IHSA Show.
