WINTER HAVEN, FL-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team came from behind twice and swept a doubleheader against Westfield State, 4-3 and 9-8, on the fourth day of their 2011 spring trip Tuesday at Chain O'Lakes Park.

The Corsairs won both games in their final at bats. They staged a late rally to win the opener, 4-3. Senior catcher Matt Ryan (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS) hit a two-run homer for the Corsairs to help erase a 3-0 deficit, and junior center fielder Dan Demello's solo home run in the top of the seventh inning broke a 3-3 tie and accounted for the go-ahead run.

Senior right-hander Brian Pedrotti (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional HS) earned the victory in relief of sophomore starter Aaron Brunette (North Andover, MA/North Andover HS), while junior right-hander Pat Lavey (Cranston, RI/Cranston East HS) earned his second save in as many days.

UMass Dartmouth trailed in the fifth inning of the nightcap, 8-2, but scored five times in the fifth inning and won it with a pair in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore second baseman Ryan Levesque (Northridge, MA/Mount St. Charles Academy) drove in a run with a fifth-inning single, then drilled a two-run, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to allow UMD to complete the sweep. Freshman outfielder Shane Leupold (Newington, CT/Newington HS) had a run-scoring single in the fifth, and three more runs came across on consecutive walks with the bases loaded.

Lavey got the final out in the top of the seventh and earned the victory, improving to 2-0. Sophomore right-hander John Quigg (Weymouth, MA/Archbishop Williams HS) and senior right Kyle Merrill (Dennis, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth HS) held the fort in relief while the Corsairs battled their way back into the game.

"We came back and hit the ball well when we needed to in both games," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Bob Curran. "Lavey had a great day in relief, and we got the big hits when we needed them."

The Corsairs are now 5-1 and have won five games in a row, while the Owls are now 2-4. UMD will continue their spring trip when they play Becker Wednesday. Westfield will play UMass Boston Wednesday.
