DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Sophomore Adam Seablom (Lakeville, Mass.) scored 22 points to lead five players in double figures, as UMass Dartmouth notched a 94-84 non-league college men’s basketball victory over Bridgewater State Monday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center.
The host Corsairs (6-2) blistered the nets at a 50 percent clip and connected for six three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes of play to grab at 50-38 advantage at the break, as UMass Dartmouth outscored the visiting Bears (0-6) by a 20-11 margin over the final 7:13 of the half. Bridgewater State used a 9-4 run in the first 2:36 after intermission to close back to within five on senior Dimitri St. Louis’s (Brockton, Mass.) lay-in, but the hosts restored their double-digit edge and built their largest lead (89-75) with 2:41 remaining on senior Harry Alexander’s (Washington, D.C.) lay-in with 2:41 remaining, as the visitors got no closer than the final margin.
Junior Jake Ashworth (Fairhaven, Mass.) added 17 points in the triumph for the Corsairs, who received 14 points, five rebounds and three assists from sophomore Dhalyn Sanders-Dyer (Worcester, Mass.) along with 11 points and nine boards from sophomore Sean Leahy (Hanson, Mass.). Alexander added a double-double performance of 10 points and 17 caroms for UMass Dartmouth, which received eight points, seven assists and six rebounds from sophomore Marcus Azor (Brockton, Mass.) along with eight points from freshman Taylor Carlson (Wareham, Mass.). The hosts shot 48 percent (39-82) from the field overall and held a 47-32 rebounding advantage on the evening, including a 23-10 on the offensive glass alone.
Senior Ryan Carney (Easton, Mass.) led all scorers with a game-high 29 points and three assists in the setback for Bridgewater State, which received 21 points from St. Louis along with a double-double effort of 20 points, 18 rebounds and five assists from senior Rayshon Ward (Fayetteville, N.C.). The Bears shot 52 percent (32-62) from the floor (including 55 percent in the second half alone) and held a 16-8 scoring edge at the charity stripe for the contest.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Providence, R.I. on Wednesday evening to take on Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference clash that tips-off at 7:30 pm, while Bridgewater State hosts Dean in a non-league outing on Thursday evening in Bridgewater, Mass. that tips-off at 7:00 pm.
