BREWSTER, Mass. -- The UMass Dartmouth golf team closed out its fall schedule by finishing in a tie for 14th place at the 85th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships on Monday afternoon at The Captains Course, as the Corsairs fired a two-day total of 671 on the par 72 layout.
Sophomore Jack McDonald (New Bedford, Mass.) set the pace by tying for 25th place in a field of 114 competitors with a score of 79-80-159, while fellow sophomore Garrett Lane (Tewksbury, Mass.) followed in a tie for 66th place with rounds of 87-81-168. Senior Nick Avilla (Westport, Mass.) was next in a tie for 77th place with a score of 87-84-171 for UMass Dartmouth, while freshmen Ethan Johnson (Attleboro, Mass.) and Alexander le Gassick (Mattapoisett, Mass.) rounded out the Corsair scoring with respective 86th and 101st place totals of 85-88-173 and 88-93-181.
Babson took the team title with a score of 589 in the event, as the Beavers topped runner-up Johnson & Wales (604) and third place Nichols (620) for the crown. UMass Dartmouth tied with the University of New England in the competition, as the Corsairs finished third among Great Northeast Athletic Conference squads in the event that included besting 2019 league champion Southern Maine.
