PROVIDENCE, RI-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 326 and finished second at the Rhode Island College Spring Invitational at the par-72 Triggs Memorial Golf Course Saturday.
The Corsairs finished two strokes behind the team champion, Husson. The host Anchormen were third at 333 and Johnson & Wales was fourth at 339.
Sophomore Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett, MA/ORR/Allegheny College/Bristol CC) led UMass Dartmouth with a score of 80. He tied for eighth overall. Sophomore Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) was next at 81 and finished 10th, junior George Gillmore (Cotuit, MA/Barnstable HS/Fairfield) shot an 82 and toed for 11th, junior Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) came in at 83 and tied for 16th, and senior Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) finished at 88 and tied for 30th.
"It's a good way to open up the spring season," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "Most of the schools have only gotten a handful of rounds in, and a second place finish is pretty encouraging. It gives us something to look forward to for the rest of the season. Brandon Oldham was steady for most of the day, coming at 41 and 39, while Nick Jagoe and Matt Connolly scored well on the back nine. There are still some kinks to work out, but, for our first 18 holes, it's a good finish."
The Corsairs will return to action when they host the Hampton Inn Classic next weekend.
