NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's lacrosse team have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Thayer made 14 saves in playing all but 8:52 of two games as the Corsairs defeated MIT and Roger Williams last week. He stopped 12 of 17 shots as the Corsairs defeated RWU for the first time ever, while he made two saves in UMass Dartmouth's win against MIT. For the week, he posted a 4.32 goals against average and a .636 save percentage.
Gaffney, who earned the LEC rookie award for the second consecutive week, scored four goals and added two assists for six points in two games last week. He scored three goals and added an assist in the game against Roger Williams, and scored once and assisted on another goal as the Corsairs defeated MIT.
"I am proud and happy for the both of them," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kevin Mahoney. "They come to practice every day and work hard. It is awesome to see success happen to people who put forth such a great effort. Nick is doing a great job. He is a complete goalie with his stopping ability, clears and how vocal of a leader he is with the defense, He is making excellent decisions and is limiting his mistakes and is one of the hardest workers on the team. Connor is just doing an excellent job and learning as we go. It is a new offense for him and he is getting to know his teammates. He is also getting more aggressive and attacking the cage. We are excited about what he can do over the next few years."
UMass Dartmouth is 4-1 and will return to action when they host Western Connecticut State in the LEC opener for both teams on Saturday, March 31st.
