WORCESTER, Mass. -- Senior Frank Ciliberto (Spencerport, N.Y.) netted a pair of goals to lead WPI to a 4-1 non-league college men's soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
All five of the contest's tallies came in the opening 38-plus minutes of play, as Ciliberto's two strikes sandwiched a marker off the foot of junior Brandon Hima (Watertown, Conn.) that staked the host Engineers (2-0) to a 3-0 advantage just 9:26 into the contest. Senior Joao Correia (Peabody, Mass.) got the visiting Corsairs (0-2) on the board just 42 seconds later when he converted a feed from sophomore Dylan Danneker (Mansfield, Mass.) for his first goal of the season, but junior Matt Mulligan's (Hebron, Conn.) unassisted tally in the 39th minute restored WPI's three goal lead and closed out the scoring on the afternoon.
Hima added an assist on Ciliberto's second marker to finish with three points on the day for the Engineers, who received a pair of helpers from senior Spencer Ralphs (Simsbury, Conn.) to go with a single assist from senior Riley Doherty (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Sophomore Rufus Adams (Duxbury, Mass.) earned his second win of the season without making a save in net for WPI, while freshman Chris Moussavi (Bellmore, N.Y.) made five stops in his collegiate debut in goal for UMass Dartmouth. The Engineers outshot the Corsairs by a 12-2 margin overall and took all five corner kicks in the contest.
UMass Dartmouth heads to Cambridge, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on MIT in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 pm, while WPI travels to Middletown, Conn. on Wednesday evening to square off with Wesleyan in a non-league match beginning at 7:30 pm.
