DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Sophomore Vance Bates (Chatham, Mass.) scored the golden goal 3:51 into overtime to lift Keene State to a 1-0 Little East Conference men’s soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.
Bates converted a corner kick feed off the foot of junior Emmanuel Smith (Concord, N.H.) from 10 yards out on the deciding tally for the visiting Owls (10-5, 4-2 LEC), and sophomore Anthony Pasciuto (Abington, Mass.) made that stand up by making five saves in goal to earn the clean sheet triumph for Keene State.
Sophomore Jake Castro (Swansea, Mass.) made eight stops in suffering the tough-luck setback in net for the host Corsairs (7-5-1, 2-3-1 LEC), as the Owls outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 19-7 margin overall (9-5 on goal) and took five of the six corner kicks in the contest.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Bridgewater, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to square off with Bridgewater State in a non-league outing beginning at 3:30 pm, while Keene State hosts MCLA in a non-league match on Wednesday evening in Keene, N.H. that begins at 7:00 pm.
