DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- UMass Dartmouth and Rhode Island College battled to a scoreless double overtime Little East Conference men’s soccer draw Wednesday evening at rain-soaked Cressy Field.
The host Corsairs (7-4-1, 2-2-1 LEC) received six saves and the fifth shutout of the season from sophomore Jake Castro (Swansea, Mass.) in taking a point from the first place and visiting Anchormen (7-4-2, 4-1-1 LEC), who received six saves and the third clean sheet of the fall from junior Charlie Tashjian (West Warwick, R.I.).
Each team had chances for a golden goal in the extra sessions, as Rhode Island College senior Jack Clancey (Narragansett, R.I.) missed from the right side of the net in the first overtime and UMass Dartmouth senior midfielder Junior Monteiro (New Bedford, Mass.) was denied on a point-blank chance in the second extra session by Tashjian.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Keene State in a Little East Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field beginning at 1:00 pm, while Rhode Island College heads into Boston on Sunday afternoon for a Little East clash with UMass Boston that also begins at 1:00 pm.
