BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior Yuran Teixeira’s (Praia, Cape Verde) penalty kick conversion with 8:46 remaining lifted UMass Boston to a 1-0 Little East Conference men’s soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening at Cotter Field.
The two squads battled to a scoreless draw into the closing minutes of action before Teixeira provided the heroics for the host Beacons (7-2-1, 2-1 LEC) with his fourth tally of the season after a foul in the box, and senior Omar Castro-Dreher (Woonsocket, R.I.) made that stand up by making three saves to record his fifth clean sheet of the fall for UMass Boston.
Sophomore Chris Moussavi (Bellmore, N.Y.) suffered the tough-luck setback with a nine-save effort in goal for the visiting Corsairs (5-4, 1-2 LEC), as the Beacons outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 21-12 margin overall (10-3 on goal) and held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Lesley in a non-league outing on Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field beginning at Noon, while UMass Boston heads to Plymouth, N.H. on Saturday afternoon for a Little East Conference clash with Plymouth State that begins at 3:45 pm.
