NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team scored twice in the final 25 minutes and defeated visiting UMass Boston, 3-2, in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.

Senior defender Alex Bettencourt (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) tied the game in the 66th minute when he converted a pass from junior forward Giuliano Basile (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow HS). Then sophomore midfielder Kyle Lopes (Somerset, MA/Somerset HS/Bristol CC) scored his second consecutive game-winning goal, taking a pass from junior forward Jacob Borges (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS/Bristol CC) that set him up alone in front of Beacon junior goalkeeper Domenick Persuitte (West Barnstable, MA/Barnstable HS). Lopes drilled home a low shot to break the tie.

Sophomore midfielder Alvin Qiriazi (Roslindale, MA/West Roxbury HS) gave UMass Boston a 1-0 lead when he lobbed a shot over the head of Corsair freshman goalkeeper Kellen Rauch (Ashland, MA/Ashland HS) less than five minutes into the game. Sophomore midfielder Ebenezer Vicente (Praia, Cape Verde/Massasoit CC) tied it when he tapped in a header from Alex Bettencourt after a corner kick in the 21st minute. Qirazi put the Beacons ahead again three minutes later when he picked up a loose ball inside the box and scored.

"I thought we played well, and we controlled the action most of the time," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Henry Almeida. "We rallied, and it was good to see that we can come from behind and win. We got the result that we needed."

The Corsairs out shot the Beacons, 18-5. Rauch and freshman goalkeeper Mike Phelan (Carver, MA/Carver HS) combined to make three saves for UMD, while Persuitte made eight for Lasell.

UMass Dartmouth improved to 6-1-0 and 0-1-0 in the LEC with the victory, while UMass Boston dropped to 2-4-1 and 1-1-0 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Connecticut College Tuesday. The Beacons will visit Becker Wednesday.
