BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Both UMass Dartmouth swimming & diving teams dropped a pair of dual-meet decisions to Bridgewater State on Wednesday evening at the Moriarty Pool, as the Corsair men fell by a 141-129 margin and the Corsair women suffered a 132-119 setback to the Bears.
Sophomore Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) posted three victories to lead the way on the women’s side for UMass Dartmouth (0-2), as she took top honors in the 50 yard backstroke (29.87), 200 yard backstroke (2:18.47) and 200 yard individual medley (2:23.02). Freshman Danielle Klash (Gardner, Mass.) swept the top spots in the 500 yard (5:44.98) and 1000 yard freestyle (11:51.08) for the Corsairs, who received a pair of first place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (2:07.00) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:44.65) along with a runner-up performance in the 50 yard breaststroke (36.67) from senior Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.).
Freshman Morgan Beebe (Ellington, Conn.) was first in the 200 yard butterfly (2:25.56) and recorded second place finishes sin the 50 yard butterfly (29.06) and 200 yard individual medley (2:29.62) for UMass Dartmouth, which received a runner-up performance in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:55.74) from junior Tara Clark (Southgate, Mich.). The quartet of Klash, Murphy, senior Alissa Hall (Westboro, Mass.) and freshman Katherine Ferri (Springfield, Mass.) teamed up for a second place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:07.18.
Sophomore Nathan Motisi (Ellington, Conn.) led the way on the men’s side with a pair of first place performances in the 500 yard freestyle (5:23.17) and 1000 yard freestyle (11:03.38) for UMass Dartmouth, which received a first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly (2:19.95) and a runner-up performance in the 500 yard freestyle (5:26.04) from freshman James Shaw (North Chelmsford, Mass.). Junior Noah Yeskewicz (Middleboro, Mass.) was first in the 50 yard butterfly (25.66) for the Corsairs, while junior Dodhy Saint-Amand (Brockton, Mass.) swept the one (197.65) and three meter (181.20) diving competitions.
Junior Justin Chung (Roslindale, Mass.) registered a trio of second place finishes in the 50 yard breaststroke (29.29), 200 yard breaststroke (2:21.29) and 200 yard individual medley (2:12.52) for UMass Dartmouth, which received runner-up performances in the 50 yard (28.20) and 200 yard backstroke (2:13.66) from junior Cameron DiBenedetto (East Freetown, Mass.). Seniors Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Kyle MacKenzie (Londonderry, N.H.), along with freshmen Devon Foster (Northbridge, Mass.) & Jonathan Colascione (West Islip, N.Y.), registered respective second place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (1:55.44), 100 yard freestyle (52.36), 50 yard freestyle (23.90) and 1000 yard freestyle (11:07.32). The quartet of DiBendetto, Chung, Yeskewicz and Foster finished second in the 200 yard medley relay (1:46.78), while MacKenzie, Motisi, Shaw and Barrett recorded a runner-up performance in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:31.49).
Both UMass Dartmouth squads return to action on Saturday morning by hosting the Eighth Annual Louise Goodrum Invitational at the Tripp Natatorium beginning at 11:00 am.
