NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's tennis team fell to Johnson and Wales University, 6-3, this afternoon in a non-conference matchup at the UMD Tennis Courts.
The Corsairs slip to 0-2 in the early season, while the Wildcats improve to 5-1. The teams played pro-sets due to a late arrival time by Johnson and Wales.
UMass Dartmouth faced an early 2-0 hole after dropping the first two doubles spots, but the Corsairs generated a victory in No. 3 doubles when sophomore Andrew Burdick (Dartmouth, Mass.) and freshman Patrick Pacheco (Fall River, Mass.) toughed out a 9-8 win.
Sophomore Dan Chouinard (Westport, Mass.) and junior Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, Mass.) opened singles play by defeating their opponents, 8-5 and 8-4, to give UMass Dartmouth a 3-2 advantage. The Wildcats went on to win the proceeding four games to capture the match from the Corsairs.
