SALEM, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's tennis team fell to Salem State 5-4 in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon despite several tight matchups in both singles and doubles.

How it Happened
Salem State was able to get a hot start in doubles action to hold off the UMass Dartmouth rally in singles for the victory.
In doubles, Salem State's No.1 combination of Chen Chen (Lawrence, Mass.) and Mitchell Dyer (N orth Attleboro, Mass.) barely beat out senior Corey Rafter (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore Anthony Joseph (Fairhaven, Mass.) in a 9-8 decision with a 7-3 tiebreak set. Juniors Patrick Pacheco (Fall River, Mass.) and Justin Torres (Dighton, Mass.) fell 8-4 to Luke Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.) and Noah Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.) at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Dan Holland (Woburn, Mass.) and Jacob Averka (Sutton, Mass.) took down Summer Forest-Bulley (Turners Falls, Mass.) and Zach Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) to the score of 8-6.
Chen followed up his win at No. 1 doubles, with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Rafter. At No. 2 singles, Dwyer dispatched Joseph 7-5, 6-2.
The remainder of the flights were Corsair victories. Pacheco collected a win at No. 3 with a score of 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 in a close match with L. Hodgkins. Torres swept N. Hodgkins 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Forest-Bulley picked up his fourth win at No. 5 singles, with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Holland. With his 6-3, 6-3 win over Averaka at No. 6 singles, Pavao rose to 3-0 in singles on the season.
