GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Anthony Joseph (Acushnet, Mass.) teamed up with freshmen Kyle Noseworthy (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Chase Franco (Somerset, Mass.) for wins in both singles and doubles play, as UMass Dartmouth notched a 7-2 Little East Conference men’s tennis dual-match victory over Southern Maine Saturday afternoon at the USM Fieldhouse.
Joseph, Noseworthy, Franco and sophomore Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) each posted straight set singles triumphs on the day for the visiting Corsairs (7-10, 4-3 LEC), who opened the afternoon by sweeping all three doubles matches. Joseph and sophomore Tristin Viale (Westfield, Mass.) claimed an 8-2 victory at the top doubles spot for UMass Dartmouth, which received a similar result at the number two position from the sophomore tandem of Eli Brooks (Franklin, Mass.) and Baylen Harper (Leicester, Mass.). Noseworthy and Franco accounted for the visitors’ other point of the contest with an 8-4 win at number three doubles.
Junior Kyle Morin (Lewiston, Maine) and senior Kevin Dowling (Stamford, Vt.) accounted for the lone points of the day in the setback for the host Huskies (1-9, 1-6 LEC), as they each posted straight set triumphs at the respective fifth and sixth singles spots in the lineup.
UMass Dartmouth has clinched a home court berth in the upcoming Little East Conference Championships, which begin with quarterfinal round play on Tuesday afternoon. Complete tournament pairings will be announced by the league office on Sunday evening. Today’s match marked the season finale for Southern Maine.
