NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA--Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Junior Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) and junior Brett Croteau (Dighton, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) were named LEC Field Athletes of the Week.
At last week's New England Division III Championships at Colby, Chauvin was first in the hammer with a throw of 188 feet, 10 inches. She broke the school record and currently ranks first in the nation in the hammer. Croteau was first in the javelin with a throw of 198 feet, seven inches, and currently ranks 14th nationally in that event.
"Krista turned in another outstanding performance," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Stave Gardiner. "She's really starting to feel more comfortable with more turns in her approach, which she has been working on throughout the season. She had a few throws during the competition that were around 180 feet, and now she has the top throw in the country by three feet. Brett has been a model of consistency throughout the year. He has competed with a lot of confidence, and he's looking forward to improving his position in the national rankings in the remaining meets."
The Corsairs will return to action this weekend at the Open New England Championships at Stonehill.
