UMass Dartmouth senior forward Nakira Examond was named as the Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the seventh time in her career on Monday afternoon after averaging a double-double effort in a pair of Corsair victories last week.
A native of New Bedford, Mass. and a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, Examond averaged 16.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and two steals and moved into fifth place on UMass Dartmouth’s career scoring list with 1,312 points. Nakira netted 17 points and grabbed 12 boards in last Wednesday’s 65-61 win over Southern Maine before collecting 16 points and 11 caroms in a 72-44 triumph over Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon, as the Corsairs extended their Little East regular season winning streak to 18 straight with the two home court victories.
Examond leads the league in both scoring (18.7 ppg) and rebounding (10.2 rpg) while ranking second in field goal percentage (55.1), as Head Coach Matt Ducharme’s squad takes a perfect 6-0 overall mark into Thursday night’s showdown with top-ranked Bowdoin at the Tripp Athletic Center that tips-off at 7:00 pm EST.
