WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Junior Carson Dennis (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) netted a hat trick to lead Wellesley to a 6-1 non-league college field hockey victory over UMass Dartmouth Wednesday afternoon at Butler Stadium.
The host Blue (9-8) overcame an early 1-0 deficit on second quarter tallies from Dennis and junior Maggie King (Philadelphia, Pa.) to take a 2-1 lead at the break, and the duo combined for two third quarter markers that doubled Wellesley’s advantage after 45 minutes of action. Dennis completed her hat trick with 7:13 remaining in the match, and senior Hannah Maisano’s (Gambrills, Md.) goal just 67 seconds later accounted for the final margin.
Senior Clare Doyle (Louisville, Ky.), junior Danielle Brubaker (Princeton Junction, N.J.), sophomore Julia Rappaport (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) and freshman Amy Kate Williams (Greenville, S.C.) added assists in the win for Wellesley, as junior Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.) made one save over the first three quarters of play to earn her ninth triumph of the season. Junior Brittany Perry’s (Dighton, Mass.) fifth goal of the fall 1:38 into the second stanza had given the visiting Corsairs (7-10) the early edge, as junior Katelyn Banalewicz (Fall River, Mass.) recorded nine saves in suffering the setback in goal. The Blue outshot the Corsairs by a 24-6 margin overall (15-2 on goal) and held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners for the contest.
