WORCESTER, Mass. -- Senior Sophia Monopoli (Worcester, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead Worcester State to a 7-0 Little East Conference field hockey victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Coughlin Field.
The host Lancers (5-1, 1-0 LEC) jumped out to a 4-0 halftime advantage and received tallies from six different players on the day, including a marker and a pair of assists off the stick of senior Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.). Juniors Sammi Souke (Sandwich, Mass.), Alexa Bobbin (Charlestown, R.I.), Coley Hayes (Norwood, Mass.) and Lauren Fleming (Leominster, Mass.) also netted goals for Worcester State, which held a 24-4 advantage in total shots and a 7-2 edge in penalty corners for the match.
Junior Katelyn Banalewicz (Fall River, Mass.) made 10 saves in the setback for the visiting Corsairs (0-3, 0-1 LEC), who also received a defensive save from senior Bridget Harrington (Florence, Mass.).
UMass Dartmouth hosts Lasell in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Cressy Field beginning at 7:00 pm, while Worcester State entertains Connecticut College in a non-league match on Wednesday evening at Coughlin Field that also begins at 7:00 pm.
