D'Ambruoso's Goal Pilots Women's Soccer to 1-1 Draw with Smith

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Senior Talia D'Ambruoso (Warwick, R.I.) scored the equalizer, striking in the 54th minute to keep the Pioneers at bay as the Corsairs played to a 1-1 draw with Smith College on Wednesday in non-conference action.

How it Happened

After a scoreless first half, Smith got on the board in the 48th minute of play. Freshman Reilly Sullivan (Keene, N.H.) rifled a shot 20 yards out into the top right corner, which just missed the outstretched fingers junior keeper Becca Field (Brentwood, N.H.)

Early in the second half, D'Ambruoso capitalized on a free kick, maneuvering around the Pioneer wall and keeper to the lower right corner from 30 yards out to even the match.

The best opportunity that either side had to win it in regulation came in the 80th minute when Corsair senior Erica Farias (Tiverton, R.I.) sailed a penalty kick just over the crossbar. UMass Dartmouth put two shots on goal in the overtime periods to Smith's one, but neither team could convert for a clinching score.

Inside the Numbers

  •  Field made three saves in goal for the Corsairs on her second-straight full contest between the pipes on the season.
  •  Junior Shelby Hall (W. Springfield, Mass.) tallied six saves on the evening.
  • The Corsairs outshot the Pioneers 16-13, and held the advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.
  •  D'Ambruoso's goal at 53:05 snapped a 258-minute scoreless streak from the Corsairs offense.  At the same time, the goal snapped a 231-minute scoreless streak for the Pioneer keepers, dating back to the opening minutes against Neumann University on Sept. 11.
