SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Graduate student Kellie Gambell (Middletown, Conn.) netted a hat trick to lead Springfield to a 9-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Thursday evening at Brock-Affleck Field.
Senior Mackenzie Luiz (Newington, Conn.) and junior Sara Swetland (Manchester, N.H.) added two goals each in the triumph for the host Pride (5-0), who scored three times in the opening 7:38 of action en route to a 6-0 cushion at the break. Sophomore Caitlyn Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) made one save to pick up the clean sheet in net for Springfield, which held a 34-3 overall advantage in shots and took all nine corner kicks in the contest.
Junior Jaimee O’Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) and freshman Katherine Hubbard (Haverhill, Mass.) each made five saves in respective halves of action in the setback for the visiting Corsairs (1-1).
UMass Dartmouth travels to Wellesley, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Wellesley in a non-league match beginning at 1:00 pm, while Springfield entertains Williams in a non-league clash on Sunday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field that also begins at 1:00 pm.
