Women's Soccer Suffers 1-0 LEC Overtime Setback To UMass Boston

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Sophomore Grace McGettrick (Marshfield, Mass.) scored the golden goal 7:18 into overtime to lift UMass Boston to a 1-0 Little East Conference women’s soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Wednesday evening at Cressy Field.

McGettrick pounced on a deflection in front of the net for her seventh tally of the season for the visiting Beacons (9-2, 3-0 LEC), and freshman Maria Spylios (Leominster, Mass.) made that stand up with a four-save effort in goal for UMass Boston, which held a 29-5 advantage in total shots (14-4 on goal) and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks for the contest.

Junior Jaimee O’Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) made a season-high 13 stops in the setback for the host Corsairs (1-8, 0-3 LEC), including a pair of point-blank saves in the closing minutes of regulation.

UMass Dartmouth heads to New London, Conn. on Saturday afternoon for a non-league clash with Connecticut College beginning at 1:00 pm, while UMass Boston hosts Plymouth State in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Boston that also begins at 1:00 pm.
