Final Stats

MILTON, MA-Host Curry broke a 2-2 tie late in the first game and held off a second-game rally to sweep a doubleheader from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's softball team, 4-2 and 5-2, in a non-conference doubleheader at the D. Forbes Will Athletic Complex Thursday.

In the opener, the Corsairs led, 2-0, going to the bottom of the fourth after scoring on senior shortstop Vicki Andruszkiewicz' (Danvers, MA/Danvers HS) solo homer in the second inning and RBI single by sophomore second baseman Desiree Sousa (Swansea, MA/Case HS) in the fourth. The Colonels took a 3-2 lead on Alysia DiMuzio's two-run homer in the fifth inning and scored in the sixth on a solo homer by Megan Welch. Amanda Peters scattered eight hits and earned the win for Curry, improving to 7-4, while freshman Brittany Eldridge (Raynham, MA/Bridgewater-Raynham HS) went all the way for the Corsairs and took the loss, falling to 4-6.

UMass Dartmouth scored twice in the sixth inning of the nightcap, getting a run when freshman pinch-hitter Rachel Fonseca (New Bedford, MA/Greater New Bedford Vo Tech HS) reached on an error and another on a sacrifice fly by sophomore designated hitter Kristie Duval (Hanover, MA/Hanover HS). Curry had taken an early lead on Christina Sancinito's two-run single in the first inning and RBI hits by DiMuzio and Jillian Nemcovich in the third. Nemcovich went 5 1/3 innings and earned the victory, improving to 3-0, while Ashley Ricciardi finished for her second save. Sophomore Ashley Puls (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS) took the loss for UMD, falling to 2-4.

"We had our chances, but we couldn't put it all together," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kelly Roy-Sale. "We made a few errors in the first game; we didn't get as many timely hits as we needed with runners in scoring position. Brittany and Ashley both pitched pretty well."

UMass Dartmouth dropped to 7-15, while Curry improved to 21-11. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Keene State in a doubleheader Saturday.
