Women’s Swimming Edged by Westfield State, 131-99

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth duo of senior Chrissy Deveaux (North Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Abigail Wilson (Newburyport, Mass.) combined for four of their squad's five total wins on Saturday afternoon, but the Corsairs were ultimately edged out on the road by Westfield State, 131-99.

How it Happened

Wilson achieved her first of two victories on the day in the 100-yard butterfly, sealing the win in 1:10.79. She continued her success in the 50-yard butterfly, finishing just ahead of teammate Brianna Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) with a time of 29.76 seconds.

The Corsairs owned the top-two spots of the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley, with Deveaux notching first place in each. Sophomore Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) was narrowly edged by Deveaux in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing just three-tenths of a second after her teammate. Runner-up in the 500-yard free was UMass Dartmouth sophomore Alissa Hall (Westborough, Mass.), who finished in 6:16.62.

In the final event of the day, the visitors contributed 11 more points to their total in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In just 2:01.94, the Corsair team of Johnson, Wilson, Hall, and freshman Rebecca Vermette (Southbridge, Mass.) earned the first-place finish.
