DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Both UMass Dartmouth swimming & diving teams recorded impressive performances in the non-scoring Louise Goodrum Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Natatorium.
Sophomore Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) led the way on the women’s side for the Corsairs with four top three finishes, including first place honors in both the 200 freestyle (2:06.59) and 100 yard backstroke (1:04.97) to go with third place performances in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.99) and 100 yard individual medley (1:07.08). Freshmen Morgan Beebe (Ellington, Conn.) and Danielle Klash (Gardner, Mass.) recorded respective first place finishes in the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.85) and 1650 yard freestyle (19:40.33) for UMass Dartmouth, which received a trio of runner-up performances from senior Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) in the 100 yard butterfly (1:07.32), 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.07) and 1650 yard freestyle (20:09.39) along with a third place finish from junior Tara Clark (Southgate, Mich.) in the 500 yard freestyle (6:02.09).
The Corsairs posted a pair of top three finishes in relay action as well on the day, as the quartet of Kovach, Murphy, Beebe and freshman Katherine Ferri (Springfield, Mass.) notched a time of 2:04.09 in the 200 yard medley relay, while Kovach, Ferri, Murphy and senior Kayla Lovy (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded a third place performance in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:51.75).
Junior Noah Yeskewicz (Middleboro, Mass.) led the way on the men’s side for UMass Dartmouth, as he collected a pair of first place finishes in the 100 yard (58.32) and 50 yard (25.85) butterfly to go with a second place performance in the 100 yard backstroke (1:01.76). Junior Dodhy Saint-Amand (Brockton, Mass.) swept the one (165.90) and three meter (182.25) diving competitions for the Corsairs, who received a second place finish from sophomore Nathan Motisi (Ellington, Conn.). Senior Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) notched a second place performance in the 100 yard freestyle (52.56) and added third place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (1:55.83) and 1650 yard freestyle (19:13.84) for the hosts, who received a runner-up finish in the 50 yard breaststroke (29.43) and third place performance in the 100 yard individual medley (59.89) from junior Justin Chung (Roslindale, Mass.).
The Corsair men claimed a pair of second place relay finishes on the afternoon, as the quartet of Chung, Yeskewicz, senior Kyle MacKenzie (Londonderry, N.H.) and junior Cameron DiBenedetto (East Freetown, Mass.) posted a time of 1:47.28 in the 200 yard medley relay, while MacKenzie, Motisi, sophomore Eric Worden (Portland, Maine) and freshman James Shaw (North Chelmsford, Mass.) notched a runner-up performance in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:37.53).
Both UMass Dartmouth squads travel to Bristol, R.I. next Saturday afternoon to take on Roger Williams in dual-meet action beginning at 1:00 pm.
