DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Four different players notched wins in both singles and doubles play, as Johnson & Wales swept a 9-0 non-league dual-match decision from UMass Dartmouth in a college women’s tennis contest played Thursday afternoon on the UMD Courts.
Senior Gabriela Velazquez (La Romana, Dom. Rep.), junior Claire Parry (Westport, Conn.), sophomore Kourtney Moore (Roswell, Ga.) and freshman Emily Hill (Wilmington, Mass.) all joined junior Katherine Ledesma (Coral Springs, Fla.) and freshman Madison Allan (Chester, N.H.) in claiming singles triumphs for the visiting Wildcats (9-1). Moore and Hill teamed up for an 8-4 win at number one doubles for Johnson & Wales, which received an 8-0 triumph at the second doubles spot from Parry and Velazquez along with an 8-3 win at the final doubles position from the tandem of sophomore Lily Votta (Scituate, R.I.) and freshman Sydney Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn.).
The host Corsairs fell to 7-5 with the setback, as freshman Lauren Morgart (Weston, Mass.) split sets with Parry at the top doubles spot before dropping a 10-8 pro set decision.
UMass Dartmouth heads into Boston on Saturday afternoon for a Little East Conference dual-match with UMass Boston beginning at 1:00 pm, while Johnson & Wales hosts Suffolk in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash on Saturday evening in Riverside, R.I. that begins at 6:00 pm.
