DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Three players posted wins in both singles and doubles action to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 7-2 non-league college women’s tennis dual-match victory over Lesley Friday afternoon on the UMD Courts.
Juniors Michelle and Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) netted straight set triumphs at the number two and three singles spot in the win for the host Corsairs (3-0), who received a pair of pro-set singles victories at the number five and six positions from junior Jordan Martin (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Alanna O’Connell (Assonet, Mass.). UMass Dartmouth opened the day by sweeping all three doubles decisions, as Rachel Aftandilian teamed up with senior Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass. for an 8-5 win at the top spot while Michelle Aftandilian and Martin notched an 8-0 win at number two. O’Connell and junior Hana Hershey (North Attleboro, Mass.) capped the Corsairs’ scoring with an 8-4 triumph at number three doubles.
Senior Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) and freshman Grace Jovanovich (West Bloomfield, Mich.) accounted for two singles wins in the setback for the visiting Lynx (3-3), as they posted respective straight set victories at the number one and four positions in the lineup,
UMass Dartmouth travels to Danbury, Conn. on Sunday afternoon to take on Western Connecticut in its Little East Conference opener beginning at 1:00 pm, while Lesley heads to Delhi, N.Y. tomorrow afternoon for a non-league dual-match with SUNY-Delhi that also begins at 1:00 pm.
