DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Five different players combined for wins in both singles and doubles play, as Rhode Island College swept a 9-0 Little East Conference women’s tennis dual-match decision from UMass Dartmouth Tuesday afternoon on the UMD Courts.
Freshman Jenna Lisi (Cranston, R.I.) and junior Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) notched wins at the top two singles positions before combining for an 8-1 win at number one doubles for the visiting Anchorwomen (8-1, 4-0 LEC), while juniors Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) won in straight sets at the respective third and fourth singles spot before teaming up for an 8-0 triumph at number two doubles. Sophomore Clara Siegmund (Pomfret, Conn.) collected a straight set victory at number five singles for Rhode Island College, while junior Serena Bobola (Cranston, R.I.) won in straight sets at the sixth singles position and teamed up with junior Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, R.I.) for an 8-3 triumph at the third doubles spot.
Senior Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) dropped a pro-set decision at number two singles in the setback for the host Corsairs (5-3, 1-2 LEC), as she claimed a 6-4 second set victory before falling 10-8 in the pro set.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Southern Maine in a Little East Conference dual-match on Friday afternoon on the UMD Courts beginning at 3:30 pm, while Rhode Island College heads to Worcester, Mass. on Thursday afternoon for a non-league dual-match with Clark that begins at 4:00 pm.
