DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth split its two matches this afternoon to place third in the eighth annual Corsair Volleyball Invitational.
UMass Dartmouth swept Daniel Webster by scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 30-28. The Corsairs dropped a 3-1 decision (25-22, 25-11, 17-25, 25-17) to the eventual champions, Framingham State, in the tournament finale. Senior captain Brianna Perry (Acushnet, Mass.) and junior Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, Mass.) represented UMass Dartmouth on the All-Tournament team.
Senior Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) and Ronaghan each registered seven kills to power the Corsairs past the Eagles. Junior Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) handed out a match-high 21 assists, while Perry tallied 19 digs. Ronaghan also showcased her versatility with 10 digs.
Senior Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, Mass.) posted a double-double with 10 kills and a team-high 16 digs against the Rams, while Ronaghan produced 10 kills and two service errors. Spinazola also reached double digits in two statistical categories: assists (29) and digs (10), while Perry turned in a strong performance with 10 digs.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7 p.m. on Sept. 8, when the Corsairs travel to Salve Regina.
