Volleyball Drops 3-1 Little East Decision to Eastern Connecticut

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Sophomore Alaetra Long (Lincoln, Neb.) registered a double-double effort of 18 kills, 10 digs and two service aces to lead Eastern Connecticut to a 3-1 Little East Conference volleyball victory over UMass Dartmouth Tuesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center.

After dropping the opening set by a 26-24 margin, the visiting Warriors (14-5, 5-1 LEC) came back to take the next three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-15, as freshman Anna Barry (Andover, Mass.) added 11 kills in the triumph for the winners.  Senior Carly Balskus (Hebron, Conn.) chipped in with seven kills, 12 digs and three block solos for Eastern Connecticut, which received six kills from sophomore Lauren Notholt (Milford, Mass.) along with four kills and six digs from sophomore Abby Stern (Manchester, Conn.).  Junior Mckenzie Maneggia (Andover, Conn.) recorded 26 set assists and nine digs for the Warriors, who received 13 set assists from freshman Meg Verizzi (Lebanon, Conn.) and 14 digs from freshman Madison Bell (Salem, Conn.).

Senior Amanda LaCroix (East Freetown, Mass.) notched a double-double effort of 10 kills, 15 digs and three set assists in the setback for the host Corsairs (7-11, 0-5 LEC), who received nine kills and 11 digs from junior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) along with eight kills and four digs from senior Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.).  Freshman Molly Porch (New Hartford, Conn.) added five kills and four digs for UMass Dartmouth, which received four kills from freshman Mallory Singer (Succasunna, N.J.).  Junior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) and sophomore Riley Thomas (Fairhaven, Mass.) combined for 27 set assists for the hosts, who received 10 digs and six set assists from junior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.).

UMass Dartmouth heads to Worcester, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Worcester State in a non-league outing that begins at 6:00 pm, while Eastern Connecticut travels to Dallas, Pa. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Farmingdale State and host Misericordia in a non-league tri-match beginning at 2:00 pm.
