Volleyball Falls In Tough Five Set Decision At Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. --  Senior Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.) registered 15 kills, six digs and four total blocks overcame a two-set deficit to post a 3-2 non-league college volleyball victory over UMass Dartmouth Friday evening at the Hogan Sports Center.

After dropping the first two sets by finals of 25-14 and 26-24, the host Chargers (5-6) won the next two sets by margins of 25-20 and 25-21 before claiming a 15-6 triumph in the decisive fifth set.  Senior Rebecca Straubel (Altamont, N.Y.) collected nine kills, 10 digs and seven service aces for Colby-Sawyer, which received six kills and three total blocks from freshman Ava LaValle (Peabody, Mass.).  Sophomore Anna Allen (Los Angeles, Calif.) recorded 35 set assists, 12 digs and five kills for the hosts, who received 26 digs from senior Morgan Flynn (Reading, Mass.) and five kills from freshman Olivia Werner (Williston, Vt.).

Senior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) posted a double-double effort of 14 kills and 13 digs in the setback for the visiting Corsairs (0-5), who received seven kills, eight digs and four total blocks from sophomore Emma Aillet (Deer Park, Tex.).  Sophomore Mallory Singer (Succasunna, N.J.) joined freshman Nora Craft (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Emma Spach (Billerica, Mass.) in notching six kills each for UMass Dartmouth, while senior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) added 22 set assists and eight digs.  Freshman Courtney Carreiro (Dartmouth, Mass.) chipped in with 17 set assists for the visitors, who received 28 digs from senior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) along with 15 digs from senior Meghan Mullinax (Lake Balboa, Calif.).

UMass Dartmouth hosts Regis in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center beginning at 6:00 pm, while Colby-Sawyer entertains Saint Joseph (Conn.) and Maine-Presque Isle in a tri-match tomorrow afternoon at the Hogan Sports Center that begins at Noon.
