KEENE, N.H. -- The UMass Dartmouth volleyball team dropped a tri-match decision to host Keene State (3-0) and Suffolk (3-2) on Saturday afternoon in contests played at Spaulding Gymnasium.
Senior Nicole Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded nine kills and 10 digs in the Corsairs’ (7-14, 2-4 LEC) opening 25-13, 25-15, 27-25 Little East Conference setback to the host Owls (19-7, 4-2 LEC), as sophomores Emma Aillet (Deer Park, Tex.) and Mallory Singer (Succasunna, N.J.) combined for 11 kills for UMass Dartmouth. Senior Jordan Rittberger (Huntington, N.Y.) added 11 set assists, six digs and a pair of service aces in the opener for the Corsairs, who received eight set assists and two digs from junior Riley Thomas (Fairhaven, Mass.) along with four set assists and four digs from freshman Courtney Carreiro (Dartmouth, Mass.). Senior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) collected 21 digs in the first setback, while senior Meghan Mullinax (Lake Balboa, Calif.) chipped in with seven digs.
UMass Dartmouth jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the nightcap against Suffolk (16-8) by taking the first two sets by 25-17 and 25-13 finals, but the Rams evened matters by winning the next two sets (25-16 & 25-20) before claiming a 15-11 triumph in the decisive fifth set. Silverman registered a double-double effort of 14 kills, 16 digs and two service aces for the Corsairs, who received nine kills and five digs from Singer along with five kills and seven digs from junior Alivia Connors (Derry, N.H.).
Aillet and freshman Nora Craft (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each had five kills in the second outing for UMass Dartmouth, which received 21 set assists and 11 digs from Thomas along with 12 set assists and four digs from Rittberger. Freshman Vanessa Barreto (Natick, Mass.) notched eight digs and three service aces for the Corsairs, who received 11 digs from Sykora.
UMass Dartmouth heads into Boston on Thursday evening to square off with Emmanuel in a non-league match beginning at 7:00 pm, while Keene State entertains Norwich in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at Spaulding Gymnasium that also begins at 7:00 pm. Suffolk hosts Regis in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash on Wednesday evening in Boston beginning at 7:00 pm.
