Position: Head Coach

Head Coach Steve De Rossi has known nothing but success during his 24 years as the head boys' volleyball coach at New Bedford High School. Now, he's bringing some of that success to the UMass Dartmouth women's program.

DeRossi, who has compiled a 36-44 record in three seasons as head coach of the Corsairs, uses the same focused and intense style of play that has been a trademark of his Whaler program.

In 24 seasons,DeRossi has compiled a record of 430 wins and only 64 losses. He has led his team to eight state championships and was named Massachusetts Coach of the Year in 1994.DeRossiwas also coached the Massachusetts boys' volleyball team in the Mizuno High School All-Star Series in 1994.

Three times, he has led teams to medals in the Bay State Games (gold in 1992, silver in 1989, and bronze in 1988). Volleyball Monthly named his high school team Team of the Month in September, 1987, and Volleyball Magazine did the same in 1997.

DeRossihas been a clinician at various clinics, and has served as a coach and co-director of the Whaler Volleyball Camp since 1992 He expects his players to have a passion for the game of volleyball, their team, and for the competition. UMD Volleyball Mission Statement

The goal of the program is to offer student-athletes a disciplined, systematic approach to the playing of winning volleyball. The program will strive to provide daily opportunities for players to develop and understand the importance of individual effort and teamwork. Coaches and players will work together to develop positive habits and to build individual character.
