"It was nice to have seven players earn a victory," said Corsairs head coach Doug Chapman. "It was especially nice for Kerry Magoon and Mollie McCaffrey to notch their first wins in singles for Molina Oung to get a 'W' in doubles. We had not played on clay before, but the conditions were good and the players appeared to adapt pretty well to the new surface."
For the AMCats, now 0-4, Jessica Gautieri and Callie Mulcahy were 8-2 winners at No. 1 doubles. Gautieri then edged junior Maggie LaBrun (Mattapoisett, Mass.) 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Mulcahy defeated Orival 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 doubles.
The Corsairs will open their Little East Conference season Tuesday, hosting Rhode Island College (7-0), the conference favorites according the preseason coaches poll. The match will start at 3:30 p.m. at the UMD Tennis Courts.
