Athletic Department Awards Banquet Honors

At the conclusion of each academic year, the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Department holds an awards celebration - now known as The Arnies - to recognize the athletic as well as academic success of its student-athletes.  The annual event is held each Spring and includes the presentation of special awards to student-athletes and staff members.

The Outstanding Career Award is presented to one male and one female senior student-athlete, in recognition of outstanding athletic performance in a UMass Dartmouth athletics department-sponsored sport over the course of their career. Recipients must have competed in at least three seasons during their Corsair career, including their senior year. The Athletic Performer of the Year Award recognizes two student-athletes who made significant athletic contributions that elevated the performance of their entire team. These student-athletes are excellent ambassadors of Corsair Athletics, embodying UMass Dartmouth values on and off the field.

The Senior Scholar-Athlete Award honors one representative from a men’s and women’s program who used a year of athletic eligibility during their senior year—and did so while excelling academically at the highest level. The Coaches Award is intended to recognize one representative from a men’s and women’s program that personifies the ideals of sportsmanship, leadership, and dedication over their career that UMass Dartmouth hopes to instill in all of its student-athletes. The Rookie of the Year is presented to one standout representative from both a men’s and women’s program who made a major impact on their team’s success in their very first season of eligibility during their first academic year with the program.

The Team GPA Award is presented to a men's team and a women's team whose squad holds the highest calculated grade point average. The team members grades are averaged based on the previous Spring and current year's Fall Term averages. The True Grit Award is presented by the Corsair Strength & Conditioning Staff to an honoree from a men's program and a women's program who have demonstrated unmatched leadership, work ethic, and dedication in the strength and conditioning room, setting the standard for their teammates and programs. The Armada Award - also presented by the Strength & Conditioning Staff - is presented to a men's program and a women's program for the same ideals as the True Grit, but in a team setting.

The Department Member of the Year Award is presented to the individual whose support of UMass Dartmouth Athletics has made significant and positive impact on the student-athlete experience, while the Student Worker of the Year Award was established to recognize a student-worker who truly goes above and beyond. This award honors someone who shows initiative, demonstrates consistent quality in their work, and plays a vital role in enhancing the experience of our athletic and recreational community.

The Male and Female ECAC Robbins award was presented annually to two students who have achieved in both the classroom and on the athletic fields.  This award took into consideration both academic and athletic success and also served as the Athletic Department's nominees to the ECAC for their annual Robbins Male and Female Athlete of the Year Award.  The John Frye Alumni Service Award is presented at the annual awards banquet to a member of the UMass Dartmouth staff or campus community to recognize contributions to the Athletic Department.  The award is named in honor of John Frye, Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU) Class of 1971 and a 1995 inductee into the Corsair Athletic Hall of Fame.
