DANBURY, Conn. – UMass Dartmouth Women's Tennis kicked of both its 2016 and LEC campaigns on Saturday, taking home an 8-1 victory over Western Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
In the doubles pairings, the Corsairs captured two out of the three pairing to a score of 8-3. Junior Mollie McCaffrey (Tauton, Mass.) and freshman Jamie Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) took number two doubles, while junior Kheyla Orival (Woburn, Mass.) and freshmen Natasha Shiku (North Grafton, Mass.) claimed the third pairing. Reigning Little East Rookie of the Year Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass.) and junior Kerry Magoon (Marshfield, Mass.) took the first flight 8-5.
In singles, the ball continued to bounce the Corsairs' way. After capturing number two singles, Fastino claimed the victory for UMass Dartmouth at 6-1, 6-0 in number four singles. Junior Molina Oung (Bourne, Mass.) took the sixth flight for UMass Dartmouth, with a score of 6-0, 6-1.
Western Connecticut's lone win on the afternoon came at the fifth flight singles, when senior Karen Velez (Dansbury, Conn.) beat out junior Samantha Rollings (Tiverton, Mass.) 1-6, 6-3, 10-3.
Inside the Numbers
- With the win, the Corsairs have won the last five matches in the fall season and eight of their last nine during the traditional season.
- The Corsairs have won seven straight matches against the Colonials. The last time that Western Connecticut defeated the Corsairs was back on Sept. 25th, 2010 when they dropped a 6-3 decision.
