DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis celebrated its four seniors;Â
Emma Sokolovsky,
Jordan Beals,
Jackie Bokis and
Yasemin Kurtis Tuesday afternoon. The team also played on their newly resurfaced home courts for the first time this season.
The four-time defending LEC champion Rhode Island College Anchorwomen, who defeated UMass Dartmouth, 9-0, improved to 12-0 and 7-0 in the conference and clinched the LEC Regular Season Championship. The Corsairs fall to 6-6 and 3-4 in the LEC.
"There is a reason why RIC has not lost an individual match when they have their entire lineup together," said Head Coach
Doug Chapman. "I thought we competed pretty well, but in the end we were just outgunned top to bottom. We had trouble stringing enough points together to win more games. Hats off to them, they are an excellent team."
With one match remaining, the Corsairs have clinched a spot in the Little east Tournament. With a win over WestConn, the Corsairs would finish fifth in the standings. UMassD would also finish fifth with a loss and a Salem State win over Castleton. The only scenario where the Corsairs finish sixth is with a loss and a Castleton victory over Salem State.
UMass Dartmouth is at WestConn on Saturday at 1 p.m. to finish the regular season.
