BOSTON, Mass. -Â The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team's season came to an end in the quarterfinal round of the Little East Conference (LEC) Tournament Tuesday afternoon at UMass Boston, 5-1.
The Corsairs faced adversity throughout the year and were still able to finish with a 7-7 record and 4-4 in the LEC to make the playoffs, while the Beacons improve to 7-4 on the year and move on to the semifinal round against top-seeded Rhode Island College.
"
Ailey Riddick and
Jordan Beals played very well in winning third doubles, which was vital to keep us in the match," said Head Coach
Doug Chapman. "The match was playing out just like the first time we played, when UMB won 5-4. The LEC playoffs are played to decision and they got to five before we could finish matches we were leading. It was a well-played match under difficult conditions for both teams, with the winds whipping off the harbor. Despite the loss, we have a lot to be proud of on a successful season. We're back!"
Senior
Jordan Beals and sophomore
Ailey Riddick won their doubles match, 8-3, over Meaghan Moriarty and Skylar Robles.
After taking two of the three doubles, UMass Boston swept the remaining three singles to win the match. Junior
Alanna O'Connell put up a strong fight (6-3, 6-4), as did senior
Emma Sokolovsky (6-2, 6-4).
UMass Dartmouth will now prepare for the 2022 season.
