Box Score SOMERSET, Mass. – In its first match in over two years, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team swept Southern Maine, 9-0, to open Little East Conference play at the
Doug Chapman Courts in Somerset, Mass., Saturday afternoon. The Corsairs only dropped three games across doubles and singles.
"It was such a great feeling being back in action as a team," said Head Coach
Doug Chapman. "Everyone played with so much enthusiasm, and it showed in the final result, from top to bottom."
In doubles, the senior duo of
Yasemin Kurtis and
Jackie Bokis came away with an 8-1 win. Junior
Alanna O'Connell and sophomore
Ailey Riddick swept their match, 8-0. Senior
Jordan Beals and junior
McKenzie Ferrari came away with an 8-1 win.
In singles,
Yasemin Kurtis, who was playing as the No. 1 defeated her opponent, 6-3, 1-6, 10-3. Bokis (No.2), O'Connell (No.3), Riddick (No. 4), Ferrari (No.5) and Beals (No. 6) all swept their opponents.
Next up, UMass Dartmouth is back in Somerset to face Thomas College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
