UMass Dartmouth wins second straight match to open season

Box Score SOMERSET, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (2-0) women's tennis team stayed hot in its second match of the season, defeating Thomas College (2-3) 8-1, at the Doug Chapman Courts at Somerset Berkely Regional High School Wednesday night.

"We actually started two of the doubles and four of the singles playing a little tentatively," said Head Coach Doug Chapman. "But once we found our rhythm, we settled into the match and began to play with a lot more confidence. Overall, it was a solid team effort."

Umass Dartmouth swept its three doubles matches. the senior pair of Yasemin Kurtis and Jackie Bokis defeated their opponents, 8-2. Junior Alanna O'Connell and sophomore Ailey Riddick won their doubles match, 8-7 and 7-4. To round out doubles, senior Jordan Beals and senior McKenzie Ferrari came away with an 8-3 victory.

The winners for the Corsairs in singles were Kurtis (6-2, 6-1), Bokis (6-3, 6-0), O'Connell (6-3, 6-1), Ferrari (6-3, 6-0) and Beals (6-2, 6-1).

Next up, UMass Dartmouth will face Little East opponent Castleton on the road on Saturday at 1 p.m.
