Corsairs Suffer First Loss of Season Against Clark

Box Score SOMERSET, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team was swept by Clark, 8-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Doug Chapman Courts. The ninth match of the day was unable to finish due to rain in the area.

The Corsairs (3-1) suffer their first loss of the season, while the Cougars (1-0), win their first match of their fall campaign.

"This was the first match that we were not able to control the pace," said Head Coach Doug Chapman. "If we are going to improve as a team, we need to play this level of competition. There are several things that we can take from this match that will help us down the line."

Dropping matches in doubles were Yasemin Kurtis and Jackie Bokis (8-2), Alanna O'Connell and Ailey Riddick (8-3) and McKenzie Ferrari and Jordan Beals (8-1).

In singles, Clarks Hannah Russo defeated Kurtis (6-1, 6-1), Ellie Garfield beat O'Connell (6-4, 6-0), Liliya Gerogista defeated Riddick (6-2, 6-0), Andrea Ossis Konig took down Ferrari (6-0, 6-0) and beating Beals was Maeve McEnroe (6-0, 6-1). 

Unable to finish was Bokis vs. Clark's Leilana Brown (6-4, 4-2).

The Corsairs are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Plymouth State at Somerset Berkley Regional High School.
